Wedding Photography Process

Wedding photography is one of the most important aspects of your wedding. After all, when all the people have left and the dress has been packed up, your wedding photos and your memories are all that you’ll have left to remember your day. I have photographed numerous weddings and each one carries with it different questions and circumstances. I’ve created this page to help answer some of those questions before you’ve even booked with me. It should give you a better understanding of the wedding photography process and where to go from here.

• The first thing you will need to do is to pick a wedding package based on your budget and then let me know which package you have chosen.

• I will then draw up a standard wedding agreement showing the package you’ve chosen, and email, or mail it to you to fill in your names, the date of the wedding, the ceremony venue, reception venue, etc. When the agreement is mailed back to me it will need to include a £100 deposit. This is the only money due until the engagement shoot.

• Depending on how far out your wedding is, I may then ask you to book in your free engagement shoot, or I may wait a few weeks, or months. I always schedule the free engagement shoots during the warmer months when the sun is out longer and produces better light.

• We then meet at a predetermined location, I usually like to go to places that are special to the future bride and groom, but failing that, we would meet at the wedding venue, or reception venue. One of my favorite places to do engagement shoots is at a National Trust. The engagement shoot is a great time for us to get to know each other, have a coffee, talk about all the logistics and make sure that we are all on the same page. This makes the actual wedding day so much easier.

• At the engagement shoot is where the next payment installment would be due. The amount depends on your package but it is whatever is left to equal half of the total package price. For instance, if you chose the £800 package and gave £100 deposit when you sent in the wedding agreement another £300 would be due on the day of the engagement shoot, taking the total paid up to £400, or half of the total price.

• At some point after the engagement shoot and the wedding you would produce a “shot list” for me, with every combination of photos that you would like me to take, i.e. “Bride with Auntie Hilga” or “Groom with his Best Man.”

• On the actual day, depending on what we discussed during the engagement shoot, I normally turn up an hour, to an hour and a half before the ceremony and photograph the groom getting ready. I then photograph the bride getting ready, then go directly to the ceremony.

• Once the ceremony has been photographed there will be a bit of time when your friends and family are greeting you, congratulating you, etc. I capture all of these moments and then it is our turn to take photos.

• I will take you to several locations around the wedding venue where we can do both reportage (informal) and more formal, posed shots. My intention is always to capture the wedding day as it unfolds as well as to pose you both in that most flattering positions in order to capture those beautiful wedding images we’ve all seen and marveled at.

• Depending on whether you paid extra I will either photograph the reception, or I will leave as soon as everyone is ready to eat.

• If you have paid for the reception to be covered I normally leave while your guests eat. Nobody wants photos of themselves eating. And I come back for the speeches and first dance.

• Your images will be uploaded to my online gallery within a few days and delivered to you on a disk in 2-3 weeks. If you’re ordering a wedding album you will choose your top 60-80 images which I will artistically edit and then I will begin to design your album. Albums are delivered in 2-3 months.

And that’s really all there is to it. I hope I have given you an insight into what you can expect of me as your wedding photographer and that we can capture some amazing images together. Ones that you will be proud to hang in your home and show your friends and family.
