Today I had a food photography shoot. The object was to capture the traditional Mexican starter, Guacamole with some chips and a Mexican beer. Not having Mexican beer on hand, we used a light rum instead. The white bowls were tricky to light. I wanted to be able to show the texture of the hand made bowls, so I couldn’t overexpose the image too much. I like to overexpose certain areas of the image at times to show where the light is coming from, or to make an image appear to be taken during summer, etc. Even though we’re inside, using a studio.
As you can see the ride side of the bowl is totally blown out. Meaning, you can’t really make any out any detail. This shows that the light is predominantly coming from the right. But there’s still some nice detail on the left side of the bowl.
A fairly simple subject matter, but once again, lighting was key. You can never take it for granted in photography. After all, photography means writing with light.
Today I sent a promotional piece I created to the printers. I will be having these delivered all over West Sussex, East Sussex, Surrey, Kent, Essex and London. But I didn’t want anyone to miss out on the 50% OFF coupon attached to the promo piece. Please feel free to print off this coupon and use it, or give it to your friends to use.
It is good on everything I do, including: Weddings, Food, Corporate, Portraits, and anything else.
Today completes my newly remodeled website. I will, most likely improve this even further, but for now, it will do. My old website was black with white text. This gave a lot of my clients trouble when trying to read what I had to say. This new layout is a white background with black text. I have also included more social media links, like my YouTube page. Which will have a lot more content added to it very soon.
I also made it easier for my English clients to read, changing my vulgar American words into their English equivalent. 🙂
Comments are very welcome. Please let me know if you like the new design. And please stay tuned for updates and future website changes.
A couple of months ago I did a photo shoot for Be Truly Well Chiropractic & Day Spa in Newark, Delaware. I managed to get some great shots of the spa staff, but I couldn’t fit Dr. West in. I returned this week just before leaving the U.S. back to England and we spent his lunch hour shooting the below shots. We only had an hour to shoot, so we had to make it fast. I think we did alright though. Dr. West has some incredible information about the body. He’s a true professional. I urge everyone to visit his website; Be Truly Well.
There is no better name in cooking than Mauviel. Established in 1830 Mauviel has been a longstanding staple in professional kitchens all across the world. The below shots took a lot of creativity and effort to pull off. The reflections on copper pots and pans is like nothing I’ve ever shot before. I had to be ultra-precise in everything I did. I am very happy with the results.
